Personally, when you have books (not to metnion, tv shows, news articles and a law suit) written ABOUT the book you wrote you're a bona fide hit! well now I never said he was a good author or the book was an actual cerebral piece of literature but you cant deny the movie with tom hanks playing the lead. However, I thought I'd start this off with a lesser known work IM reading currently (re-reading actually) called the rule of four by Ian caldwell and dustin thomason. so far (upon a re-read) its caught my attention, not one of those books where you skip to the good parts (*cough* harry potter*cough*). The book, as I described it to my friend is like davinci code + plot (I know, trust me I will NOT be returning to the davinci code every 2 sec but it really is like it) + characterization and development. You actually come to know the protagonist and his relationships with his 3 college roommates in punishable analyzation. Its hard to believe that any one could analyze their life, friends, strangers anything in general in that detail and manner cud even maintain relationships. I felt that the authors tried way to hard in their prose and narration of the story. The protagonist, tom, has an almost cynical *?* approach to the telling of the story and simple description of events. Minor character details in the story become cynical, critical, observations that turn you off the character. The davinci side of he story centers around the book the "hypnerotomachia" the 'last great mystery of the renaissance' and a deviously confusing novel/encyclopedia.

If you are looking for a good escape book read this. The plot requires thought and proactive reading while the renaissance mystery is a great guilty pleasure.

1 sentence description: davinci code + plot
Rating: ***/*****
Read if: you have a 3 hr flight, or need something to keep you occupied on the subway so you don't have to stare at the half naked, crazy drunk guy sitting across from you.
Book trade eligible: YES I am willing to trade this book!

booktradeR

hey~
well lets start with the purpose of this blog (its not just for blogging), even tho i will be posting journals and such here i thot of a different use for this blog. basically as the name suggests i luv to read. anything really but my fav genres are hist.fic, science fic, and my guilty pleasure those gossip-y sex and the city-ish novels... (ie shopaholic!) anyways i think for this blog ill just be posting thots, reviews etc...about books that i read or come across...

NOW for the 2nd purpose...as an avid book reader and a somewhat non-library go-er (the library NVR has any good books...so i buy all of my own) i have amassed a collection of books that i have read each about like 10 times. its $$ and i feel like a can gobble up a book so quickly that its just not economically sound. SO i figured that if im finished with these books, whose to say some1 else wouldnt want to enjoy it? and since im on a constant hunt for a good story i propose a trade-like system! i'll eventually get around to compling a list of my books that i've read and am finished with...if you see somehting you like then just msg or email me or leave a comment with a book that you are willing to part with and we'll trade! i know there would be problems with condition and actually being honest and tradign the book...but i just want to see how this would turn out...

so until my next post...

booktradeR
