davince + plot = THe rule of Four
Hey!
This is my second post where I;ll begin to review books for your reading lists! w00t. well I was going to talk about the davinci code by dan brown, our contemporary star-author these days. Personally, when you have books (not to metnion, tv shows, news articles and a law suit) written ABOUT the book you wrote you're a bona fide hit! well now I never said he was a good author or the book was an actual cerebral piece of literature but you cant deny the movie with tom hanks playing the lead. However, I thought I'd start this off with a lesser known work IM reading currently (re-reading actually) called the rule of four by Ian caldwell and dustin thomason. so far (upon a re-read) its caught my attention, not one of those books where you skip to the good parts (*cough* harry potter*cough*). The book, as I described it to my friend is like davinci code + plot (I know, trust me I will NOT be returning to the davinci code every 2 sec but it really is like it) + characterization and development. You actually come to know the protagonist and his relationships with his 3 college roommates in punishable analyzation. Its hard to believe that any one could analyze their life, friends, strangers anything in general in that detail and manner cud even maintain relationships. I felt that the authors tried way to hard in their prose and narration of the story. The protagonist, tom, has an almost cynical *?* approach to the telling of the story and simple description of events. Minor character details in the story become cynical, critical, observations that turn you off the character. The davinci side of he story centers around the book the "hypnerotomachia" the 'last great mystery of the renaissance' and a deviously confusing novel/encyclopedia.
If you are looking for a good escape book read this. The plot requires thought and proactive reading while the renaissance mystery is a great guilty pleasure.
